In-Home Care, Independent or Assisted Living, Nursing Home, or CCRC ?

When our loved ones start to get into their Golden Years, sometimes they will require some extra help and assistance to make their lives a little bit easier. In other cases, our loved one;’s may require far more assistance than others to simply get through their day. This typically translates into either in-home care, moving into an assisted living community, skilled nursing facility or nursing home, or a continuing care retirement community (CCRC).

In-Home Care-

In home senior care is when your loved one is cared for within the comfort of their own home. In-home care services can range from daily to weekly visits, assisting with household chores, shopping, meal prep, and in some cases medication management and  transportation.

Assisted Living Communities-

Senior assisted living communities provide similar services as in-home care, along with providing specialized senior housing for those that need a little more attention than in-home care services can provide. Assisted living communities are capable of being able to provide safety, security, medical care, and ultimately peace of mind for the new resident and their loved ones.

Skilled Nursing Facilities and Nursing Homes-

If your loved one is sick or has major medical issues then they may have to look into either nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities, or CCRC’s that have skilled nursing facilities within the community itself for their residents. Skilled nursing facilities and nursing homes are capable of being able to provide a higher level of around the clock care for residents. In some cases, the stay at the skilled nursing facility or nursing home may not be permanent, where the client is able to be moved back into assisted living community when they have fully recovered.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC’s)-

CCRC’s are another option when it comes to senior and elderly housing options. A CCRC, or continuing care retirement community is basically one large community that usually provides multiple tiers of senior care along with several different types of senior housing options.  A CCRC is in essence, a one stop shop for most types of senior care and senior to elderly housing options. CCRC’s are also considered a type of life care insurance savings plan, where an individual can start saving or investing into a CCRC contract, where they would be able to move into the CCRC community to hopefully to the independent living wing of the CCRC. As time progresses and the individual ages or becomes sick, they would be able to be relocated to a wing or building within the same community or complex to receive the care that they need either for the time being or permanently.
